Youth Recreational Basketball (Grades 1st-6th)

YMCA Youth Recreational Basketball is for kids (grades 1st - 6th) of any skill level. This program will teach kids the fundamental skills and rules of basketball, suitable for their age group. Pracice is for an hour two days a week, either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday in Los Alamos or White Rock. 

Games:
Games will mainly be played on Saturdays 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM and ocassionally on Friday evenings 

Participants will get team jerseys to keep!

 

Fall 2024-2025 Youth Recreational Basketball

Register: August 30th - October 13th, 2024
Season: November 4th, 2024 - February 2nd, 2025
Fees: $140/ $110 for Y Members

All program participants must have a parent/guardian sign a Child Liability Waiver and a COVID-19 waiver before participating.

Program payment policy: payment upon registration is required, no refunds, credits will be given on a case to case basis.

These programs rely on volunteers. Volunteer coaches of any experience level are needed and greatly appreciated.
NOTE! Volunteer Coaches will get a discount on their registration for the season!

Spring 2024 Y Competitive Basketball (5th and 6th grade only)

Register:  Now-March 15th, 2024
Parent/Coach Informational Meeting: Thursday, March 7th at 6:30 pm in Y Gym
Tryouts: Sunday, March 17th 10am-12pm at the YMCA Gym--Must register for tryouts by Friday 3/15!
***Tryouts will be held to form YMCA girls, boys teams and/or co-ed teams
Season: April 1st-Early June
Fees: $125 (Will be refunded 100% if your child does not make a team)
Practices: Monday-Thursday (White Rock and LA locations not guarenteed based on preference since teams will be formed based on skill level not location of residence)
Games: Friday evenings and/or Saturdays
Already have a competitive team? AAU and club teams that are already formed may join the Y's competitive league for $300 per team

Youth Basketball Open Gym 2024 (K-12th grades)

Ages 12 and Under: Wednesdays 12:30-2:00pm
Ages 13-18: June and July on Tuesday & Thursday 12:30-1:30pm

$15/month (12 and Under)/Free for Y Members

Little Youth Basketball (Ages 4-5 & 6-7)

Registration now open for 2024!

***Currently only LA practice locations are available for 4-5 year olds. Chamisa is available as a WR location for the 6-7 year old age group. No WR locations have hoops that go low enough for the 4-5 year old age group.

This 6 week introductory basketball program for girls and boys will focus on developing coordination and learning the basic skills & rules of basketball. Mini-sized balls will be used as well as 6ft-8ft baskets.  Practice/Games will be 2x per week in Los Alamos and White Rock (sometimes not available). Participants will get team jerseys to keep. NEW this year: participants will also get a basketball to keep!

The YMCA will monitor public health orders and adapt the program to any changes in restrictions and guidelines.

Season: May 20th - June 28th, 2024
Season Fee: $80 / $60 for Y Members
Coach Discount: $30 discount for coaches! Limit 1 head coach and 1 assistant coach per team.
***Child must be a minimum of 4 years old by start date of season OR turn 4 years old during the season to be able to register for LYB.

Please go through the fully digitized SPORTS volunteer signup process according to the steps below to become a volunteer coach:

First read/review the following:

Child Protection Training
Bloodborne Pathogen Awareness Training
OSHA Training
Lifting Training
Child Protection Policies

THEN complete the following 3 forms:

1. Volunteer Application Form

2. Background Check Form

3. Liability Waiver and Covid Waiver

FINALLY, wait for an email from our staff giving you an official "green light" to volunteer

Manual signup forms, has to be printed, signed and handed into front desk at the YMCA.

1. Volunteer Application Form - hand in fully filled out.
2. Read the following pdfs:

3. Read through the Volunteer Handbook and sign the last page - hand in the last page signed.

4. Fill out the Covid - 19 liability waiver - sign and hand in.
